It serves a population of approximately 45,000 people and enjoys a relaxed lifestyle on the coastline adjacent to Kapiti Island, a nature reserve 5km from the mainland from where the area takes its name.
The provisional Rotary Club of Kapiti was sponsored by the Paraparaumu club and conducted its first meeting at the "Hot Pot Tearooms" (now Burger Wisconsin), Paraparaumu Beach on 27 May 1977.
The provisional Club continued to flourish and early in September 1977 official notification was received from Rotary International that the Rotary Club of Kapiti had been admitted to membership of Rotary International as from 26 August 1977.
The chartering of the Rotary Club of Kapiti meant that the total number of members enjoying Rotary in the Paraparaumu area was approximately 85 and it was confidently expected that both Clubs, through their Membership and Development Committees, would expand this total in the coming years.
Arrangements were then put in hand to stage the all important Charter Meeting of the Rotary Club of Kapiti and the date set was 30 October 1977.
Membership in Charter year was 23, and the club has since thrived to achieve its current (2007) membership of 60.
President Richard Moulton welcomes any passing Rotarian to its meetings, which are held at the Senior Citizens Hall, Ocean Road, Paraparaumu Beach every Thursday at 6 for 6:25pm.
